
Rev your engines! It is Summernats week in Canberra, and things are about to get hot. Summernats is the hottest and biggest specialist car enthusiast festival. So here is what it’s all about.
History
Summernats was originally run on the last day of December in 1987 and was known as the Street Machine Summer Nationals. The name Summernats is a portmanteau of “Summer” and “National”. It is now regularly held at the start of the year over a four-day period, with two days before dedicated to vehicle inspections.
Events
Summernats is chock full of fun car events. Here are some of the events you can expect to see.
Burnout Championship
Watch tyres shred, engines scream, and cars go head-to-head in the ultimate tests of skill, power and control.
Precision International Skid Row
Two cars run side by side and fill the air with smoke and engine screams as they fry their tyres in a skid off.
Motokhana
Drivers must put their reflexes to the test on a tight course and up against the clock.
Exhibitions
Cars will be on display, revving their engines and showing just how much horsepower is under the hood.
Cruising & Parades
Watch all the hot rods and cool cars drive by with a range of cruises, convoys and parades.
Live Music
Head to the main stage and listen to a range of live music, including Peking Duk, The Living End, The Screaming Jets and Killing Heidi.
